The Tulare County Probation Department employs peace officers pursuant to 830.5 of the Penal Code.
To investigate adult and juvenile cases referred by the courts; to handle a case load of adult or juvenile clients; to assist in the supervision and care of juvenile court wards; and to assist in department program units such as work furlough, community schools, juvenile institutions, and home supervision.
To direct the activities and ensure the security of youth; to enforce established policies; and to supervise participants in the various rehabilitation and counseling programs at the Juvenile Hall or other juvenile detention facility.
To supervise staff engaged in general rehabilitation work and counseling programs at the Juvenile Detention Facility.
To supervise a unit of Probation Officers and/or Probation Correctional Officers in various units such as Juvenile and Adult Field Services, Juvenile Institutional Services, or specialized programs; and to manage one or more program areas and supervise all levels of staff within those areas.
To plan and coordinate the work of the juvenile and/or adult divisions, or a detention facility of the Probation Department, and to supervise and direct special projects or major programs.
May perform a variety of duties to include: investigate, report and make recommendations on cases referred to the Probation Department by the courts; gather client information through interviews and correspondence; conduct interviews with clients and administer various types of assessments; supervise client's progress toward accomplishment of goals; evaluate statistical data and prepare reports; conduct background investigations, and assist with community outreach, and social media.
